Mei-ling Hom

Philadelphia artist Mei-ling Hom presents a conscience-raising installation entitled 'Silkworm Grind', in which an immense trio of luminous silkworm forms slowly grind Chinese herbs and spices as it tirelessly moves in gentle arcs. The exhibition features Hom's sculptural designs, which layer historical references and cultural experiences. Often focusing her work on the plight of Asian Americans, Hom's newest sculpture incorporates the senses of sight, sound and smell to address the way in which monotonous labour is accepted as female destiny in Asian cultures.
