The Vagina Monologues

Eve Ensler's groundbreaking one-woman show has been called the sum of its private parts. The author and women's activist gives voice to a number of lusty, outrageous, brave and thoroughly human stories in the play. Her performance is about so much more than its provocative title may suggest. Ensler based the work on a series of interviews she conducted with a diverse group of women about the humour, power, pain, wisdom, mystery and excitement hidden in vaginas. The play that earned her the Obie Award makes its San Francisco début at the Alcazar Theater.

Neyla

Middle Eastern cuisine soars substantially upscale at Neyla. Thanks to chef Brendan McGovern, it no longer means overwarmed falafel served on a plastic tray. This delightfully stylish top-shelf restaurant sports stunning architecture blending classic Arabic lines with a Modernist mentality. Nine vegetarian mezza selections can be ordered as a group meal to dip into, in addition to the meat mezze. The smell of fruit-scented hookahs and charbroiled shish kebabs fill the air as belly dancers entertain diners. A must-do for the creative jet-setting crowd.
