Comrade Arms

This farce by Anthony Akerman takes an irreverent look at life in New South Africa. It stampedes over several sacred cows and resolutely resists vanishing up its own political rectitude. Above all there are recognisable characters struggling against the vicissitudes of an inexorable plot. The play was conceived during a conversation with another former exile concerning a mutual acquaintance, a communist who now runs a B&B. This delicious irony is one of the myriad paradoxes of life in the Rainbow Nation and a perfect premise for a farce.
